He started his career from Iraklis BC where he played until 2005 when his transfer to Olympiakos took place. Since then he played also for several teams of the A1 National Category such as Olimpiada Patron, Panellinios, and PAOK. For the season 2010-2011 he moved to Cyprus and played for APOEL BC. Next, he returned to Greece played for KAO Dramas and for the last two seasons (2013-2015) is a member of Kavala BC.

Furthermore, Dimitris Kalaitzidis has several participations and accomplishments with the National Teams of U-19 and U-23 such as the 4th place with the U-23 team in 2004 (World) and the 5th place in 2005 (European).
